Dr. Block ('G') grew up in southwest Ohio and attended Miami University in Oxford, OH where he received an undergraduate degree in Zoology (yes, that's true:)).  He received his MD at University of Cincinnati and went on to also do his Residency and Chief Residency in Internal Medicine.  Dr. B became Board Certified in Nephrology after completing his Fellowship at the University of Michigan where he had the privilege to train under the auspices of Friederich Port, MD who created the United States Renal Data System.

Dr. Block moved to Denver, CO in 1997 and since that time has split his time between clinical practice and conducting clinical and health outcomes research in a research division that he created in 1998.

Dr. Block has had the privilege to participate in the design, conduct, analysis and publication of over 130 clinical trials.  He has served on multiple Technical Expert panels for CMS (Center for Medicare Services), has represented the United States on several International Guideline Committees for KDIGO, and has served on the Global Steering Committees for numerous large randomized international clinical trials.  Much of Dr. Block's and his teams work has focused on three key areas of health for patients with chronic kidney disease:  1) the importance of phosphate control, diet and nutrition,  2) the effect of our current therapies for anemia and bone health on cardiovascular health and 3) designing and conducting clinical trials which focus on slowing the progression of chronic kidney disease.   Many of his clinical trials have been published in leading medical journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.

Dr. Block currently serves as the Associate Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Research for US Renal Care, Inc where he focuses on improving the quality of care delivered to nearly 27,000 patients on dialysis.

Dr. Block primarily cares for patients in the outpatient setting maintaining an office-based practice and seeing patients who require dialysis (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis).  He has served as the Medical Director of a Dialysis Unit for more than 20 years and truly considers it a privilege to care for patients with kidney disease.

'G' loves spending time with his wife, Martha, and their 4 children and 2 dogs (an Airedale Terrier and a Havanese).  He enjoys physical fitness (okay, mostly enjoys),  biking and hiking and walking the dogs!
